Transit

Jobs. Property Tax Relief. Economic Growth.
Today there are more than 40,000 jobs that are inaccessible to workers who can fill them, but simply don’t have transportation available to them to get there. That number will reach 100,000 by 2011. In fact, earlier in March, Tim Sullivan, CEO of Bucyrus International announced the addition of hundreds of jobs yet he fears workers will not have reliable public transit that will allow Bucyrus to fill them. And just 20 minutes away, where, according to Racine Mayor John Dickert, unemployment is at 17%, the unemployed to not have a public transit option to get to those jobs.

Assembly Transportation Committee Takes Unprecedented Step In Regional Cooperation!
Today (April 1), The State Assembly Transportation Committee passed transit legislation to create RTAs in Southeastern Wisconsin, the Fox Valley region as well as throughout the state. The RTA will provide dedicated funding for transit which in turn will provide property tax relief for home owners. Thank you to everyone that made calls and wrote letters! Here’s what’s next.

What Happens Next?
While this victory should be celebrated, there is much work that needs to be done in the month ahead. Our representatives still need to be hearing from us! Make sure to call the Assembly Leadership too!
