Transit
Transit is a critical issue for the seven county Milwaukee region. It is absolutely necessary that we secure a dedicated source of funding to support such an important part of our economic future. To achieve our goal we must demonstrate a unified, broad base of support!
Step 1: Vote YES on the Advisory Referendum on Tuesday, November 4th, 2008. COMPLETE!
Step 2: Voice Your Support (here)! IN PROGRESS.
The RTA, created by the Wisconsin State Legislature and the Governor in July 2005, serves Kenosha, Milwaukee, and Racine counties and is responsible for identifying a permanent, dedicated funding source for public transit in that region. The RTA consists of representatives chosen by appointing authorities from the cities and counties of Kenosha, Racine and Milwaukee as well as a special representative appointed by Governor Doyle.
The RTA’s report to Governor Doyle and the legislature may recommend a sales tax increase as a dedicated funding source for transit. This would provide a property tax reduction and secure a future for transit.
